Nine people were killed and many others were injured in a gun attack that occurred at a high school in Turkey's Kahramanmaraş province this afternoon.
According to Turkish media, the perpetrator of the attack, 14-year-old Isa Aras Mersinli, who was also a student at this school and ended his life, is said to be the son of a former police officer, citizen Ugur Mersinli, who was arrested after the incident.
Turkey's Interior Minister, Mustafa Çiftçi, announced that the school operated in two shifts and that the attack occurred as students from the morning shift were leaving.
According to him, the 14-year-old entered two classrooms carrying a gun he had taken from home and opened fire indiscriminately.
Nine people were killed in the shooting, eight of whom were students and one teacher, while 13 others were injured. Of the injured, six are in intensive care, with three of them in critical condition.
On the other hand, the provincial governor, Mukerrem Ünlüer, explained that it is still not clear whether it was a suicide or whether the perpetrator was shot during the chaos.
The incident comes just a day after another gun attack at a school in Siverek, Şanlıurfa, raising concerns about security in educational institutions.
Authorities' investigations continue with full intensity to clarify the circumstances of the attack. /Panorama
