New details have come to light from the anti-drug operation in the Italian capital, during which 2 Albanians were caught trafficking cocaine, while 40 thousand euros in cash and a 'business' notebook were found in their apartment.
Suspicious movements in a rental car were followed by the discovery of a complete drug storage and sale network between Via Ipogeo degli Ottavi and Casal del Marmo, in Rome, Italy.
Two Albanians, one of whom was already known to law enforcement, were arrested by Carabinieri officers from the Ottavia station on charges of possession with intent to sell. The drugs were hidden in the car door compartment, in a space specifically designed to hold cocaine.
Another interesting detail was the discovery of notebooks of purchased goods, turnover and potential drug buyers. These blocks will serve to further deepen the investigations of the Italian justice system, to dismantle the drug distribution cell in Rome.
It all started yesterday afternoon, when officers stopped a rental car for a routine roadside check. The driver's nervousness prompted the officers to conduct a more thorough search of the vehicle. The search yielded a positive result: three packages containing 11 doses of cocaine were hidden in the car's door sill. They also found 400 euros in cash on board.
The investigation immediately moved to a nearby apartment in the Casal del Marmo area, where a second 21-year-old man was found. Inside the house, investigators discovered what they believe to be a logistics center for local drug trafficking. They found 270 grams of cocaine, some already divided into doses, some vacuum-packed, 40,120 euros in cash and three ledgers recording drug transactions.
The checks were extended to other vehicles parked in the area and connected to both, leading to the discovery of additional narcotics. At the end of the operation, drugs, money and two vehicles were seized.
The judiciary, after evaluating the arrest, ordered that both men be held in custody at the Regina Coeli prison.
