BioNTech, the German company that became globally known during the COVID-19 pandemic for its mRNA vaccine, has announced that it is halting vaccine production in Germany and is handing over this process to its American partner Pfizer.
The company will produce the last doses this year, and then completely withdraw from COVID vaccine production, DW writes.
In the future, BioNTech is focusing on scientific research, especially on treatments for other diseases such as cancer, changing direction from mass production of vaccines towards the development of innovative therapies.
