In a response to the Express Newspaper, an EU spokesperson also recalled the fact that Kosovo pledged in Ohrid in 2023 to make some concrete adjustments and create specific guarantees in order to ensure an appropriate level of self-governance for the Serbian community in Kosovo.
This EU spokesperson said that official Brussels expects Kosovo to take the first steps regarding Self-Management, which is contained in Article 7 of the 2023 Ohrid Agreement, reached by Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, with the mediation of Miroslav Lajcak and Josep Borrell.
"The EU expects both Kosovo and Serbia to fully respect and implement all their obligations from the Dialogue, including the 2013 Brussels Agreement, which was ratified by a 2/3 majority in the Assembly of Kosovo. In Article 7 of the 2023 Ohrid Agreement, Kosovo has committed to establish specific arrangements and guarantees to ensure an appropriate level of self-governance for the Serb community in Kosovo. The EU expects Kosovo to take the first steps in this direction," this EU spokesperson told Gazeta Express when asked about the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities and whether the EU is insisting that Kosovo move to take the Draft to the Constitutional Court.
The creation of the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities and Self-Management, which comes from the Ohrid Agreement, have been continuously requested from Kosovo, stating that they are commitments undertaken to implement them.
The creation of the Association is even linked to Kosovo's path towards membership in the Council of Europe. /GazetaExpress/
