Albin Kurti is trying to use the glory of the Jashari family in Kosovo to remove Vjosa Osmani from the presidential race, by unilaterally running a member of the Jashari family on behalf of the Vetëvendosje Movement.
To elect the president in the first two rounds, 80 votes are needed, while in the third round, 61 votes are needed. Albin Kurti has the votes for president for the third round and only the presence of the opposition parties in the hall is enough for him to elect him.
If he gives signatures to Vjosa Osmani and she enters into negotiations with other parties about signatures, she might even get the votes in the first round. But if she doesn't get the votes, she could secure the quorum more than anyone else without a political agreement for the third round.
Albin Kurti, apparently, wants to bring Kosovo back to the polls and force the opposition to vote against a member of the Jashari family, who has lost both for mayor and for president.
If he wants to resolve the crisis politically, he should offer the opposition the presidency and they should agree on a name. And if he is sworn in against Vjosa Osmani, let the opposition propose other intellectual figures who honor Kosovo at least in the international arena and liberate relations with the West.
Albin Kurti is actually going to the Jashari family not to make them president, but to strip them of their status as a consensual family in Kosovo and turn them into electoral loot for his own account.
The sublime sacrifice of the Jashari family for the freedom of Kosovo is part of Kosovo's history and memory and is not rewarded with political positions. None of them were killed so that after 27 years someone could make their son president. This is a malignant scheme by Albin Kurti to deheroize the Jasharis and to make them part of the political mud in Kosovo.
So in a few days Kosovo may not have a president from the Jashari family, but there will be a bitter taste for their misuse by Albin Kurti. Kosovo may enter the elections for the third time within a year, only Albin Kurti is more interested in enjoying the result after the elections than the responsibility of governing. Thus Kosovo will be more and more frivolous in the eyes of the world and those who sacrificed for Kosovo's freedom will be increasingly tarnished because of Albin Kurti.
