Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri insists he was not the one who convinced Mike Maignan to stay at San Siro, despite the offer from Chelsea: "The credit goes to Claudio Filippi and the club."
Maignan was one of Milan's heroes last night, as the Rossoneri secured a 1-0 victory over Roma at the San Siro.
The French goalkeeper saved a Paulo Dybala penalty in the dying minutes, allowing the Serie A giants to catch Roma and Inter in second place on 21 points.
Maignan had attracted interest from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, but the Blues failed to meet Milan's financial demands.
It was reported that Allegri had also helped keep Maignan from leaving the club, convincing him to stay.
However, the Milan coach denied this last night: "Absolutely not, it wasn't me," Allegri said in a press conference on Sunday, via Milan News.
"The credit goes to Claudio Filippi, who is one of the best goalkeeper coaches. And also to the club, which has been very determined to keep him," he continued.
Maignan's future at Milan still remains uncertain, as his contract expires in June 2026.
The French national team goalkeeper has kept six clean sheets in 11 matches in all competitions this season, conceding just seven goals./Express newspaper/
