Australian authorities have announced they have launched an investigation into a 2010 incident involving Orange Is the New Black actress Ruby Rose. Earlier this week, she accused singer Katy Perry of sexual assault on social media.

The charge relates to an incident Rose said took place at a Melbourne nightclub in 2010, which Perry has denied. Victoria Police confirmed to CNN in a statement that officers from Melbourne's Sexual Crimes and Child Abuse Investigation Unit (SOCIT) are investigating Rose's allegation, which is believed to have taken place in the city's central business district. They declined to provide further details as the investigation is ongoing.

Perry has denied the allegations through her representative, who told CNN before the investigation was announced that Rose's claims are "completely untrue" and "dangerous and reckless lies." The representative did not respond to a request for comment after the investigation was launched.

Meanwhile, a representative for Rose did not respond to CNN's multiple requests for comment. Rose first made the accusation earlier this week on social media, responding to a Complex article about Perry. The article was light-hearted and addressed Perry's viral reaction to Justin Bieber's performance at the Coachella festival, which she attended with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with whom she has been rumored to be romantically involved since last year.

"Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at the Spice Market club in Melbourne. Who cares what she thinks," Rose wrote in the post that was later deleted.

CNN has also reached out to Trudeau's representatives for comment. Rose initially wrote on social media that she was "not interested" in filing a police report over the matter. However, on Tuesday, she said she had decided to file a report and could no longer speak publicly about the matter.

Perry released her seventh studio album, 143, in 2024 and then embarked on a world tour, which ended in December. In April 2025, Perry was among six women, including Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez, who traveled with Jeff Bezos' company Blue Origin, which took them to the edge of space on a 10-minute tourist mission.
