A major concert in solidarity with the trans community will be held at Wembley Arena, bringing together renowned artists and activists to deliver a message of support at a time when this community is facing great pressures and challenges.

The event, called “Trans Mission,” is organized by musician and actor Olly Alexander and festival director Glyn Fussell, in support of the Good Law Project and the charity Not a Phase. The event will feature performances by artists including Christine and the Queens, Sugababes, Romy and Wolf Alice.

According to Alexander, the event aims to be a celebration of unity and joy. While organizers describe it as a grand spectacle of solidarity, where the community and its allies come together to send a strong message of support.

Why was the concert organized?

The idea for this concert was born after a landmark decision by the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom in 2024, which determined that the term “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 refers only to biological sex. The decision caused concern and uncertainty within the trans community, as it could affect their access to various public spaces.

According to activist Dani St James, the decision not only hurt the community, but also increased social confusion and stigmatization. For this reason, the organizers felt it was important to undertake a major initiative that would show public support.

Widespread support from the music industry

Following the court's decision, musician and writer Tom Rasmussen launched an open letter calling for solidarity from the music industry. The letter was signed by hundreds of artists and industry professionals, including Charli XCX, Sam Smith, Dua Lipa and Florence Welch.

According to Rasmussen, it is very important for many trans people to feel supported by the artists they admire. This solidarity can be a source of strength in difficult times.

A broad coalition of artists

The concert brings together trans artists and their allies. The stage will also feature performances by Kae Tempest and Beth Ditto, while speakers will include activist Munroe Bergdorf, writer Juno Dawson, and renowned actor Ian McKellen.

Organizers emphasize that the presence of public figures outside the trans community is very important, because it helps the message reach a wider audience.

A message against hate

In addition to raising funds through tickets and donations, the main goal of the concert is to raise awareness and show that the trans community has widespread support.

Alexander says that anti-trans rhetoric has become increasingly vocal in the media and public debates. For this reason, he hopes the concert will serve as a "light of hope," showing that many people stand with the trans community and will not be silenced.

Organizers expect around 10 people to attend the concert – a clear symbol that solidarity and support for this community continue to exist even in difficult times. /GazetaExpress/
