Esmaeil Baqaei asks in a post on X whether the conflict can be won through “an electoral revenge against the global economy.”
He adds: "Is it ever worth cutting off your nose to make your face angry?"
His comments come after the start of a US-imposed naval blockade on ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.
Donald Trump announced the move in the early hours of Monday after repeated attempts to negotiate the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz with Iran.
The announcement and failed peace talks over the weekend preceded European stock markets opening lower on Monday, while oil prices remained high.
