Granit Xhaka was the absolute protagonist in Sunderland's big win over Tottenham Hotspur, leading his team to a 1-0 triumph that deepens the Londoners' problems even further.

Spurs remain in the Premier League relegation zone, with new manager Roberto De Zerbi starting his reign with a defeat at the Stadium of Light. It was also Sunderland's first win over Tottenham since 2010.

The game started with a good chance for Spurs, but Richarlison failed to finish after an assist from Randal Kolo Muani. The game then went under Sunderland's control, with Xhaka leading the midfield, creating constant danger - even attempting a direct goal from a corner.

Goalkeeper Antonín Kinský made several crucial saves for Spurs, while VAR overturned a penalty for the Londoners after a controversial tackle on Kolo Muani.

In the second half, Tottenham appeared more aggressive, but missed several good chances, including another one from Richarlison. And as is often the case with Spurs, missed chances were followed by punishment: Nordi Mukiele scored the only goal of the match, with a shot that deflected and left the opposing defense without a reaction.

Sunderland managed to hold on to their lead until the end, while Spurs failed to find an equaliser despite 11 minutes of added time. Pedro Porro came close to scoring late on, but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper.

This defeat leaves Tottenham in a very difficult situation, with the risk of relegation becoming increasingly real, while Sunderland gets a big win that strengthens their hopes for a place in European competitions. /GazetaExpress/
