Xabi Alonso's agent, Inaki Ibanez, has reacted to reports linking his client with a move to Liverpool.
During his playing career, Alonso played for Liverpool from 2004 to 2009, making 236 appearances and scoring 6 goals.
The Spaniard was part of the famous team that won the Champions League in 2005 in Istanbul, where he scored the equalizer in the 3-3 draw against Milan.
After retirement, Alonso went into coaching and impressed in his first role at Real Sociedad B, which led to Bayer Leverkusen appointing him as coach.
After a Bundesliga-winning season with Leverkusen, Alonso became one of the most sought-after coaches, being linked with clubs such as Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester City.
He eventually joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2025, but was sacked in January of this year after a series of negative results.
With Liverpool struggling under Arne Slott, Alonso has been linked with a possible return to Anfield in the summer.
Recently, Spanish outlet Okdiario reported that Alonso had reached an agreement to replace Slotin at the end of the 2025/26 season if the Dutch coach fails to win the Champions League.
However, his agent Ibanez has denied these claims.
"All this talk about a deal with Liverpool is just media speculation," he told WinWin.
Meanwhile, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano said that there is currently no agreement between the parties.
"At the moment there is nothing finalised, agreed or in advanced negotiations between Xabi Alonso and Liverpool. I can guarantee that nothing has been decided.
At the end of the season, Liverpool will conduct an internal review involving the players, coach and club directors.
So there will be an internal discussion to evaluate the season, but at the moment nothing has been decided and there is no agreement with Xabi Alonso.
"Of course there is respect for him – he is a former Liverpool player and a great coach – so the feelings between him and the club are positive. But so far there is no agreement."/Express newspaper/
