Although the Democratic Party of Albania and the LDK have been formal allies for years, they have never been two parties that have been able to cooperate. Due to the strong crisis between Berisha and Rugova after 1996, the relations between the DP and the LDK remained more of a myth than a reality. The only thing that worked were some personal relationships between some politicians of the DP and some politicians of the LDK.
Now in LDK and DP there are no more personalities and there are no people who have relationships with each other. Meanwhile, the leader of DP, Berisha, and Abdixhiku, I'm afraid, don't even know each other personally.
The political idol of the DP in Kosovo, at least since 2018, is Albin Kurti. Seeing him as a model for the opposition in Kosovo that later took power, the DP began to have public adoration for Kurti, especially for his clear and uncomplicated line towards the US, but to mask this, it diverted support to Vjosa Osmani due to her previous history with the LDK.
All of the DP's public stances in the last seven years that Kurti has been in power are stances that support Albin Kurti against LDK.
Now that Vjosa Osmani broke with Albin Kurti, because he did not extend her presidential mandate, the DP no longer knows how to hide its alliance with Albin Kurti and has ended up like those MPs from the "Vlen" faction who remained within Vetëvendosje from the LDK, having emigrated there by Vjosa Osmani.
And to justify their abandonment of Vjosa Osmani, they have started accusing her of being supported by Edi Rama for president. So they want Vjosa Osmani not only to be president against Albania and Edi Rama, but they also want Albin Kurti to choose her. So they do not even forgive Vjosa Osmani the right to be angry with Albin Kurti, even though her recent gestures help Albin Kurti more than her.
But this whole camp of DP people in Tirana, who in the biggest institutional crisis in Kosovo pretend to support Vjosa Osmani, but cannot do it because she has betrayed by collaborating with Edi Rama, is the most banal thing that Sali Berisha's love and adoration for Albin Kurti has produced because of his bravery in humiliating the US in Kosovo. What Sali Berisha could not do himself against the US, even though he resisted its punishment with "non grata", he looks at with adoration in Albin Kurti, who for the sake of truth remains the most uncomplicated political fighter against the US in the Balkans. Even the case of Vjosa Osmani, who tried to impose her good relations with Donald Trump, shows that he is clear about showing the Americans the door if they enter his house without permission.
This is the real adoration that Sali Berisha has for Albin Kurti and the reason why he has forgotten that the DP and LDK were the first two allied parties in the Albanian space in the early 90s. But for all those who do not know or pretend to forget, the first rift between the DP and LDK was caused by the US in 1996, when it took Ibrahim Rugova under its protection from Berisha's attempt to export his problems with the US to Kosovo, attempting to dismiss Rugova and replace him with Demac.
Since then, Sali Berisha never joined the LDK again and ended up with Adem Demaçi's student, Albin Kurti, as he fulfills all of Berisha's unrealized dreams as an anti-American. This is the reason why today Berisha is with Albin Kurti and not with the LDK. Not even with the Vlen faction that is left in the hands of Gërvalla.
But this does not mean that Albin Kurti is an ally of Berisha. He is simply someone who admires Berisha.
