Retired American Lieutenant General Eric P. Wendt, who has been nominated by Donald Trump to be appointed as the United States Ambassador to Albania, is one of the well-known figures of the US military, with a career spanning over three decades in the field of security and special operations.

Wendt most recently served as the 5th Commander of NATO Special Operations Headquarters, a position he held until 29 January 2021. During his career as a senior officer, he has held several key positions, including the role as US Security Coordinator for the Israeli-Palestinian Authority (2017–2019), as well as leadership positions in the US Pacific Command and in special operations structures in Korea and Afghanistan.

He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in law and society and then completed his master's degree in national security affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School. Wendt was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1986 and retired on March 1, 2021, after more than 34 years of service, including 30 years in Special Forces as a Green Beret.

In addition to his military career, he also speaks Arabic and Korean, reflecting his engagement in various strategic regions.

In 2020, then-US President Donald Trump nominated Wendt as US ambassador to Qatar, but his candidacy was not considered by the Senate before the end of the Congressional term, remaining without a decision.

Wendt's figure is considered a profile with extensive experience in military diplomacy and international operations, which makes him an important name in US security policy.
