The Democratic Union for Integration assesses that the recent statements by the President of the Constitutional Court are not an isolated incident, but a direct consequence of a political climate that has been created in the country.
"When you have a weak, captured and subjugated representation like VALEN in the government, then anti-Albanian forces feel encouraged and empowered. Today we are seeing statements and actions that previously did not even dare to be articulated publicly. Instead of defending constitutional rights and the achievements of the Ohrid Agreement, VALEN representatives in the government have chosen silence and servility. This silence is being interpreted as permission to attack the Albanian language, to relativize equality and to undermine the foundations of the multiethnic state," the party's statement says.
DUI also makes it clear that the Albanian language and the rights of Albanians are not issues that can be negotiated or relativized.
"They are constitutional rights and part of the political order that guarantees stability and coexistence in the country. Therefore, the responsibility for this climate does not fall only on those who make anti-Albanian statements, but also on those who, being in power, choose to remain silent and not defend these principles. DUI will continue to react and act politically to protect equality, the Ohrid Agreement and the multiethnic character of the state," the reaction states.
