A new study suggests that personality traits may influence the nature and frequency of sexual fantasies, offering deeper insight into human psychology and relationships.
Researchers from Michigan State University analyzed data from thousands of adults and found that people with high levels of negative emotionality – such as anxiety, mood swings or depression – are more likely to experience more frequent and diverse sexual fantasies.

These individuals tend to imagine a variety of scenarios, from romantic and intimate ones to adventurous fantasies or those related to power dynamics. According to researchers, these fantasies may serve as a psychological mechanism to cope with stress or negative emotional states.
In contrast, people with traits such as responsibility, discipline, and fairness – as well as those with a tendency toward cooperation and respect for others – report fewer such fantasies. This is related to the fact that they are more oriented toward social norms and self-control.w

The study involved over 5,000 adults and analyzed the relationship between five main personality traits and fantasy content. Participants rated the frequency of experiencing 40 different scenarios, divided into categories such as: exploratory, intimate, distant, and related to dominance or submission.
However, researchers emphasize that sexual fantasies are a normal part of human life and are not necessarily associated with problematic behavior. On the contrary, they can have a positive role in psychological well-being and relationships.

An interesting finding was that depression, more than anxiety or emotional instability, was associated with increased fantasies, suggesting that they may serve as a form of mental "escape."
On the other hand, creativity and imagination – often associated with open-mindedness – did not appear to have a major impact on this aspect, challenging some previous assumptions.
However, the researchers caution that the results are based on self-reports and do not indicate possible changes over time. /GazetaExpress/
