Wayne Rooney has called on Manchester United to permanently appoint Michael Carrick as their manager.
A 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday lifted United into third place in the Premier League.
From being appointed manager until the end of the season in January, Carrick has guided the team to seven wins in nine games.
Rooney believes the club should not look for another manager.
"100% he should get the job. I know Michael Carrick very well, his character and personality. The team needed calm and someone who knows the club. The players needed confidence and he has given them that," he said.
Carrick, meanwhile, did not want to comment much about his future.
He stressed that he is only focused on the next match against Bournemouth and that he is trying to do his best in his current role./Express newspaper/
