Vllaznia e Shkodra has completed its journey in the Conference League after a dramatic clash with Vikingur Reykjavik, where it was defeated with an aggregate score of 5-3, being eliminated from the second qualifying round of this competition.
This is the second time this season that the Icelandic team Vikingur has eliminated an Albanian team from Europe, after eliminating Malisheva from the competition in the first round.
A hard-fought match, but a disappointing end for the Shkodra team
After the 2-1 victory in Shkodër, Vllaznia traveled to Iceland with the aim of maintaining their lead, but failed to do so against a determined and efficient Vikinguri in front of goal.
The return match started brightly with Hafsteinsson's early goal in the 10th minute, but Bekim Balaj equalized in the 26th minute from the penalty spot. The first half ended with a score of 1-1, keeping every scenario open.
Dramatic sequels and a bitter ending
In the second half, the Icelanders took the lead again with Hansen's goal (55′), while Balaj was accurate again from the penalty spot in the 85th minute, restoring hopes for Vllaznia. But just a minute later, Hansen scored once again, sending the game into overtime with an aggregate score of 3-3.
In the 94th minute, it was Thorkelsson who gave the final blow to Shkodra's hopes, bringing the score to 4-2, which in total ensured victory and qualification for the Icelanders after more than 120 minutes of play. /Gazeta Express/
