Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won pole position at the United States Grand Prix, beating McLaren's Lando Norris, while championship leader Oscar Piastri finished sixth.
After the two McLaren drivers collided in the sprint race earlier on Saturday, neither of them was able to challenge Verstappen, even though the world champion did not complete the final lap in qualifying.
Verstappen was sent to the track late and failed to start the final lap before the checkered flag, but still managed to beat Norris by 0.291 seconds.
It was an impressive performance that clearly showed why McLaren sees Verstappen as a serious threat in the race for the drivers' title.
Norris achieved his best lap at the end of a difficult session, leaving Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in third place, just 0.006 seconds slower.
