The VLEN coalition announces that full agreement has been reached with government partners on the final version of the package of laws for higher education reforms, describing this as an important step towards improving quality and equality in the university system.

In a press release, VLEN emphasizes that the reforms do not represent only legal changes, but a new approach to building a more sustainable and competitive academic system. One of the key changes is the removal of the H-index as a basic criterion for selecting academic staff, a decision that they say aims to bring about a more balanced and meritocratic assessment.

According to the coalition, this change will not negatively affect the jobs of current university staff. On the contrary, it is announced that new mechanisms will be created that will stimulate professional development and academic advancement, while universities will be given more space for functional autonomy and qualitative development.

VLEN announces that during the drafting of the reforms there was continuous communication with rectors and professors, in order to ensure that the demands of higher education institutions – especially those in the Albanian language – are directly included in the legal solutions. Also, as part of the reform, it is envisaged that the ranking for the organization of the third cycle of studies will be done by the best universities, a standard that aims to increase quality at the national level.

The coalition emphasizes that Albanian-language universities will not be harmed by these changes, but will have an equal position with other higher education institutions. As an additional argument for the commitment to this sector, the investment of about 40 million euros for the campus of the "Mother Teresa" University is also mentioned.

In conclusion, VLEN assesses that these reforms constitute the basis of a fairer and more inclusive education system, reaffirming the commitment to advancing higher education as one of the main pillars of social development.
