Manchester United will reportedly attempt to sign 26-year-old Italian Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United during the summer transfer window.

A report from Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web has revealed that Sandro Tonali continues to be the subject of significant interest from Manchester United.

The Red Devils are keen to strengthen their first-team squad with a defensive midfielder in the coming months and have set their sights on the Newcastle United star.

The latest update has revealed that the Premier League giants have "already made it clear that they are prepared to submit a suitable offer" to sign the former AC Milan midfielder this summer.

Newcastle United aim to gain €100 million, including bonuses, from Tonali's departure.

This valuation and the player's annual salary of 8 million euros make him an unaffordable target for Juventus.

Sandro Tonali has become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since transferring to Newcastle United from Milan in July 2023.

Although the 26-year-old had a difficult start after missing several months due to a sports betting suspension, he has been crucial whenever he has been available for the Tyneside side.

Tonali has made over 100 appearances for Newcastle United so far, contributing ten goals and ten assists.

Meanwhile, the Italian midfielder's performances have attracted the attention of several big European clubs. Manchester United is one of the clubs that will compete for his signature this year.

Manchester United's interest in Sandro Tonali is understandable.

The Red Devils are looking for a versatile midfielder, as Casemiro is expected to leave Old Trafford as a free agent after the 2025/26 season.

Furthermore, Manuel Ugarte has failed to make a mark since his transfer to Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain almost two years ago.

Several candidates, including Morten Hjulmand, have emerged on Manchester United's wish list, while Tonali remains a serious target.

With the English club ready to submit a "suitable" offer for the Newcastle United midfielder, the only question is whether they can meet the €100m asking price, including bonuses.

Interestingly, Tonali is a dream target for Juventus as well, with the Italian giants looking to strengthen their midfield with his arrival.

However, given that the Bianconeri do not have the financial capacity to afford the 26-year-old Italian's €8 million annual salary, let alone the €100 million price tag, a transfer within the Premier League seems more likely for the player./Express newspaper/
