Manchester United are reportedly considering a surprise move to sign a Liverpool player.
United and Liverpool have been historic rivals for a long time, battling for trophies on many occasions.
However, the last time they faced off for the Premier League title was the 08/09 season, when the Red Devils, managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, ended the season four points ahead of Rafa Benítez's Liverpool.
Since then, United won the Premier League in the 10/11 and 12/13 seasons.
Meanwhile, Liverpool ended their 30-year wait for a title in the 19/20 season, before winning the championship again last season.
Due to the rivalry between the two North West English giants, it is very rare for players to move from United to Liverpool or vice versa. The last player to do so was in 1964, when Phil Chisnall moved from Manchester to Merseyside.
It has recently been reported that United are considering a surprise move for a Liverpool player.
According to The Daily Star, the club are "considering an offer" for midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
It is said that the Argentine star could leave Anfield during the summer transfer window, with United including him on their list of potential reinforcements.
Mac Allister, 27, excelled in his first season with the Reds under Jürgen Klopp, but has struggled to show his best form this season, as Arne Slot is under immense pressure at Anfield.
So far this season, Mac Allister has managed just three goals and four assists in 37 appearances in all competitions. Although he is under contract until the summer of 2028, there are claims that he could be tempted by a move away.
In addition to him, United are also believed to be tracking Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
With Casemiro expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer, it is very likely that United will strengthen their midfield./Express newspaper/
