Several dozen people have said that three unexpected types of jobs were "good, fun and rewarding" for them, after bad experiences in other roles.
Everyone has different expectations from work: some want to help people, others are more focused on money or work-life balance. Therefore, what one person considers “satisfying work” can vary greatly.
A Reddit user in the R/CasualUK community asked people: “What jobs do you think are really good and fun?” He said:
“I just left a job I hated and am ready for a career change. Inspired/forced by yesterday’s discussion on romanticizing jobs, where I saw that many theoretical future careers could be terribly bad, tell me: what jobs are actually good, fun, and fulfilling?”
There were hundreds of comments, and some roles that people considered happiest were not at all what was expected.
One person wrote: "The best job I've ever had was as a hotel bellhop. Stress-free job where I could talk to the flight attendants all day."
Jobs that are actually good in reality

Another agreed: "My first job at the age of 16 was cleaning hotels. Being young and energetic, I was always helping with suitcases! Definitely a job that keeps you in shape."
Another comment added: “The sheet porter seems pretty good if given the right equipment to hold things. I worked in housekeeping for a while and carrying sheets up and down the stairs destroyed my hands for months.
Moreover, some guests are very unruly and treat the room as they wish. But working as a concierge cook was a pleasure: go, wash, listen to music, talk to the bosses and staff, get off work. It doesn’t pay much, but there are overtime hours and sometimes you can help chop vegetables or make French fries. Plus, free food.”
Another commenter said: “If you can find it, my job – train manager/conductor – is hard but very rewarding.
I don’t enjoy taking money from people, but most don’t have to. The majority of passengers are fantastic, the crew on board are relaxed and it’s a great industry to be a part of. I like the level of responsibility I have, but in a fun way, not to be annoying. This is the best job in the railways for someone who likes working with great people and meeting interesting passengers.”
A user who prefers to work alone said: “I’ve only been in this job for 3 months, but I’m enjoying delivering groceries to supermarkets. I work more by myself, at my own pace, and I usually take more than the allotted 30 minutes off, plus I can listen to Spotify or YouTube while driving. Most of the customers are nice, our service offers assistance to the elderly and people with limited mobility. The only negative point is the occasional delivery to the 8th floor of buildings.”
Another added: "I work for a supermarket. The pay isn't the best, but the work is simple and the people are kind. I worked for 18 months, before that I was in IT and the last one was home support for an American company. I don't think I'll do it forever, but right now it's perfect for me." /GazetaExpress/
