The United States has called on its citizens to leave Baghdadi immediately.
The US Embassy in Baghdad said in an updated security advisory on Saturday that American citizens should leave Iraq immediately, following an overnight rocket attack on the embassy building, reports the Associated Press. The Guardian, Gazeta Express reports.
"Americans face a risk of kidnapping and American individuals have been directly targeted. Iran-linked terrorist militias could hinder the ability of Iraqi authorities to respond effectively to emergencies," the embassy statement said.
“United States citizens should depart Iraq immediately. American citizens who choose to remain in Iraq are encouraged to reconsider their decision, given the significant threat posed by Iran-aligned terrorist militias.”
