US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth insisted that "the ceasefire is not over" even though both sides exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz, CNN reports.
"No, the ceasefire is not over. Ultimately, this is a unique and distinct project, and we expected that there would be some fluctuation at the beginning, which is what happened," he said during a press conference at the Pentagon on Tuesday.
The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, said Iran has attacked US forces more than 10 times since the ceasefire was announced, but stressed that this remains below the "threshold of resuming major combat operations."
Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, told reporters Monday that the U.S. “destroyed” six small Iranian boats in the Strait.
