European football's governing body, UEFA, has reportedly made the final decision regarding Lyon's participation in the Europa League — a development that could have a major impact on Crystal Palace.
Last month, Premier League side Palace made history by winning their first major trophy after beating Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final.
Eberechi Eze scored the winning goal, securing the Eagles' place in Europe for the 2025/26 season.
However, it was later reported that Palace risked being excluded from European competition because the club's shareholder, John Textor, also owns a controlling stake in French club Lyon, which has also qualified for the Europa League — which is against UEFA's rules on multi-club ownership.
On Friday afternoon, it was reported that an official decision had been made regarding Lyon's participation in European competitions.
According to French media, specifically Foot Mercato, UEFA has confirmed Lyon's participation in the Europa League for the 2025/26 season.
It is said that shareholder John Textor and general manager Michael Gerlinger have personally held financial presentations to provide assurances and reassurance to UEFA's Club Financial Control Body.
It is not yet clear what impact this decision will have on Crystal Palace's participation in the Europa League, with the team expected to learn their fate next week.
