A legendary stadium has been blocked by UEFA from hosting the 2027 final after significant concerns were raised.
Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham will battle for the first trophy of the new European season when they face off in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.
PSG won the Champions League last season after a crushing 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in Munich, while Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in Bilbao.
The Super Cup will be played in Udine, Italy, at Udinese's "Bluenergy Stadium", with a capacity of around 25 seats.
Both PSG and Tottenham will aim to win this trophy, as they also have ambitions for glory in the Champions League this season.
The 2025/26 Champions League final will take place in Budapest, Hungary, at the Puskas Arena.
UEFA suspended the decision to appoint the host of the 2026/27 season finale during a meeting last year. The final was originally scheduled to be held at San Siro in Milan - home of AC Milan and Inter Milan.
But UEFA blocked the selection of San Siro because the municipality of Milan could not guarantee that the reconstruction works would not affect the stadium and its surroundings during the final.
There have been plans to renovate the San Siro in the coming years, although Reuters reported that both Milan and Inter believe these plans are "not feasible."
However, there is a possibility that the stadium will require intervention before Euro 2032, which will be hosted by Italy and Turkey.
Italy has also secured the right to host the 2026 Winter Olympics, which could affect plans for San Siro.
According to The Athletic, UEFA is concerned about the "lack of clarity" regarding the stadium's reconstruction plans.
In particular, she fears that any work could affect the use of the stadium during 2027 and, consequently, the organization of the final.
The final decision on the stadium that will host the 2027 Champions League final is expected to be made next month.
Two candidates are Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan and Metropolitano Stadium in Spain.
Baku hosted the 2019 Europa League final between Chelsea and Arsenal, while the Metropolitano in Madrid – home of Atletico Madrid – hosted the 2019 Champions League final between Tottenham and Liverpool. /GazetaExpress/
