This is the moment a United Arab Emirates F-16E fighter jet chases an Iranian Shahed-136 drone over Al Mamzar Beach in Dubai.
Social media footage shows shocked beachgoers staring skyward as the drone flies low over the water, the Telegraph reports.
Within seconds, the F-16E enters the scene and fires what appears to be an AIM-9X Sidewinder, a heat-seeking air-to-air missile designed for close-range attacks, at the drone.
The drone then disintegrates moments after impact. The interception came as the United Arab Emirates' Defense Ministry said on Sunday that a total of 117 drones were detected, with 113 intercepted and destroyed, while four fell inside the country.
The ministry said its air defenses also intercepted and destroyed 16 Iranian missiles, while one missile fell into the sea.
Iran launched a series of furious retaliatory attacks across the Middle East following the assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei, launching attacks on the United Arab Emirates, as well as other Gulf states such as Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
The United Arab Emirates claims that Iran has fired 238 ballistic missiles at their territory since the start of the US-Israeli attacks, with 221 destroyed and only two reaching their destination.
