US President Donald Trump said two naval destroyers passed through the Strait of Hormuz yesterday amid a fragile ceasefire with Iran.
"Yesterday you probably saw that we sent two very sophisticated, beautiful, brand new destroyers right into the middle of the strait, and nobody did anything to us," the president said on "Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo" on Fox News.
"Because what we do is we track the weapon backwards, so it goes back and hits people on the other side, literally within three minutes it neutralizes them. The technology is incredible," Trump added.
Trump's comments come after U.S. Central Command said Saturday that two Navy guided-missile destroyers began mine clearance in the Strait of Hormuz. The USS Frank E. Peterson and the USS Michael Murphy "transited through the Strait of Hormuz and operated in the Arabian Gulf as part of a broader mission to ensure the strait is fully cleared of naval mines previously laid by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps," CENTCOM said in a tweet.
The president had said earlier Saturday in a post on Truth Social that the US was "beginning the process of cleaning up the Strait of Hormuz as a favor to countries around the world."
