US President Donald Trump has said that negotiations between Washington and Tehran on a new nuclear deal are progressing constructively, stressing that his administration will not rush into a deal until it is sure it serves American interests.

In a statement released by the White House, Trump described the nuclear agreement reached during the administration of former President Barack Obama as "one of the worst deals ever" and claimed that it had paved the way for Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

Trump said that sanctions and blockades on Iran will remain in place until a new agreement is reached, certified and signed, emphasizing that "there can be no mistakes."

He added that relations between the two countries are becoming more professional and productive, but reiterated that Iran must not develop or acquire nuclear weapons. The US president also thanked Middle Eastern countries for their support and left open the possibility that Iran could join them in the future /Gazeta Express.

Trump's full speech:

One of the worst deals ever made by our country was the Iran Nuclear Deal, proposed and signed by Barack Hussein Obama and the incompetent amateurs of the Obama Administration. It was a direct path for Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

This is not the case with the deal currently being negotiated with Iran by the Trump Administration – in fact, it is the exact opposite! Negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have instructed my representatives not to rush to an agreement, as time is on our side.

The blockade will remain in full force until an agreement is reached, certified and signed. Both sides must take the necessary time and do it right. There can be no mistakes!

Our relationship with Iran is becoming much more professional and productive. However, they must understand that they cannot develop or obtain a nuclear weapon or bomb.

I would like to thank, so far, all the countries of the Middle East for their support and cooperation, which will be further strengthened through their joining the nations participating in the historic Abraham Accords. And, who knows, maybe the Islamic Republic of Iran would like to join as well!
