Jonathan Karl, ABC News' Washington correspondent, posted on X an excerpt from an interview with US President Donald Trump. Trump said he was not considering extending the ceasefire (which expires next Tuesday), saying he would not need it. He said exciting events lie ahead. "I think we have an incredible two days ahead," he said. "I really believe that," Trump said.
Asked whether the war would end with a deal or simply by announcing the destruction of the enemy’s military capabilities, Trump said both outcomes were possible. “It could end either way, but I think a deal is the better option because it allows them to rebuild,” he explained. “They really have a different regime now. However, we have eliminated the radicals. They are gone,” he added.

He also made a statement about his role in global politics. "If I weren't president, the world would be destroyed," Trump concluded.
In another interview, Trump told Fox News that the war with Iran is “very close to being over,” echoing similar claims he has made in recent weeks. The US president also said Tehran is “desperate” to reach a deal. “I think it’s close to being over. Yes, I think it is, I think it’s very close to being over,” Trump told Fox News.

"You know, if I were to resign now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild the country. And we're not done yet. But we'll see what happens. I think they're eager to make a deal," the American president said.
Trump also hinted that US-Iran talks could resume, telling the New York Post that “something could happen in the next couple of days.” The first round of talks, held last weekend in Pakistan, ended without a resolution.
Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance said yesterday at an event at the University of Georgia that Trump wants to make a “great deal” with Tehran. The US vice president also said he has a “very good feeling about our current situation.”
