Trump says NATO has offered to help "clean up" the Strait of Hormuz, in comments made to Fox News shortly after he announced plans to block the key shipping corridor.
He says the US was "very disappointed with NATO", but that "now they want to come and they want to help with the strait", the BBC reported, Gazeta Express reports.
"It won't take long to clean it up, so we'll clean up the strait," he tells the media, adding that he thinks it will be free to use again "in the not-too-distant future."
He also says the US is bringing in mine sweepers and that the UK – a NATO member – will do so too. “I understand that the UK and some other countries are sending in mine sweepers,” he tells the media.
