Real Madrid have had a lot of bad luck with injuries over the last 2-3 years, and the problems have continued in recent weeks. They lost Rodrygo Goes for a long time after tearing his ACL against Getafe CF last month, and now another of his club and international team-mates is set to miss a long time.

Last week, Éder Militão was forced off the pitch against Deportivo Alavés with a thigh injury. It was initially hoped that the problem was minor, but that proved to be the case. He was ruled out for the rest of the season and now there has been another blow for the 28-year-old.

Recent reports suggested that Militão was facing surgery due to a recurrence of a previous thigh injury – the same one that kept him out for four months earlier in the season. His worst fears have been confirmed and on Wednesday, Real Madrid announced that he has already undergone surgery to resolve the problem, according to Marca.

"Our player Éder Militão successfully underwent surgery today for a rupture of the proximal femoral biceps tendon in his left leg. The operation was performed by Dr. Lasse Lempainen under the supervision of Real Madrid's medical services. Militão will begin his recovery process in the coming days."

The operation means Militão will be unable to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the Brazil national team, as will Rodrygo. He is likely to be out for at least another 3-4 months and, if confirmed, could miss the start of the 2026-27 La Liga season, which starts in August – a major blow for Real Madrid, who are hoping to bounce back strongly in the new campaign.
