Another shocking event has hit Italy: a 45-year-old woman of Albanian origin, named Gentiana Hudhra, was brutally stabbed to death on Saturday afternoon in the small town of Tolentino, near Macerata.
The attack occurred unexpectedly in one of the most populated areas of the city, on Viale Benadduci street, where the woman was stabbed several times with a kitchen knife, in front of the eyes of shocked passersby, reports TCH, Gazeta Express.
The suspected perpetrator is her ex-husband, a 55-year-old also of Albanian origin, who did not attempt to flee after the attack. He was found by the carabinieri sitting on a bench near the scene, in a confused state and not resisting arrest.
The incident occurred in the late afternoon, in an area frequented by citizens. Eyewitnesses say that everything happened in a matter of seconds. The woman was stabbed several times on the sidewalk and despite her screams and the immediate reaction of passers-by, medical assistance could do nothing to save her life.
Emergency services confirmed the death on the spot, while police immediately launched investigations to uncover the full dynamics of the crime.
The victim had lived in Tolentino for several years and was the mother of two adult children, aged 21 and 23, from her marriage to the alleged perpetrator. The couple had been separated for three years and no previous episodes of violence or threats had been reported to date.
Authorities are questioning family members and acquaintances to better understand the relationship between the couple and whether there were warning signs that were overlooked.
According to preliminary sources, the 55-year-old is suspected of having suffered from mental disorders. However, he did not resist arrest and is currently in custody, pending forensic assessments and investigations into his mental state.
The event has shocked the local community and prompted strong reactions in the Italian media, as well as in the Albanian community in the region, reopening the debate on violence against women and the need for more effective preventive measures.
