The State Police has suspended three senior police officers in Durrës, following the serious accident that occurred the day before, in which two minors lost their lives and another was injured.
The decision was made by the Director General of the State Police, Skender Hita, who, in accordance with the regulation, justified the suspensions with "poor performance in fulfilling duties."
Those suspended are: the director of the Durrës Local Police Directorate, Afrim Tafa; the deputy director for Public Order and Security, Zija Sulaj; and the head of the Traffic Police Sector, Kreshnik Skëndo.
"Also, immediately after the event, the General Director of the State Police ordered the Traffic Police Directorate to establish a group of experts who went to the scene to analyze the causes and circumstances of the accident," the police statement said.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Professional Standards at the General Directorate of the State Police has launched a disciplinary investigation to assess whether or not there is responsibility among the ranks of Police employees for this case.
