An 18-year-old surfer was electrocuted and fatally injured on Thursday evening in Beinwil am See, Aargau. His 17-year-old friend, who was also on the roof of the Seetalbahn train, escaped unharmed.

The Aargau cantonal police were notified at 7:30 p.m. that two train surfers had climbed onto the roof of a train on the SBB railway line between Beinwil am See and Mosen, Lucerne. According to initial findings, the two young men had boarded the train at Lenzburg station, the cantonal police announced on Friday.

The 18-year-old had gotten too close to the train's electrical components and as a result suffered a fatal electric shock. This powerful shock threw him off the roof of the moving train.

His 17-year-old friend was not injured in the incident. A care team provided support at the scene, sda.ch wrote.

The cantonal police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. The public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation.

For the recovery operation, both the railway line and the main road between Beinwil am See and Mosen were closed for several hours. In addition to the Aargau cantonal police, officers from the Aargau South regional police and the Lucerne police were involved in the operation. An ambulance and personnel from the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) fire brigade were also at the scene.

There is a risk of death. A similar incident occurred on January 24 at Zofingen station in the canton of Aargau. A 17-year-old climbed into a freight car at night. An electric shock killed the teenager.

The cantonal police emphasize that there is an extreme risk to life in the vicinity of tracks and overhead lines. Under no circumstances should you enter the track areas or board train carriages, reports albinfo.ch. The risk of approaching trains or electric shocks is always present.

Just a few weeks ago, a young man in the Canton of Solothurn, originally from Kosovo, died from an electric shock while climbing onto the roof of a train.
