Francesco Totti's comment after Roma's three-goal penalty shootout loss to Lille has gone viral in Italy: "This has never happened in the history of football," said the Yellows legend.
Roma missed three penalties in a 1-0 defeat to Lille on Thursday, and Totti's reaction spread quickly in Italy.
According to media outlets such as "Corriere dello Sport" and "Gazzetta", Totti sent the comment to a group of friends on WhatsApp, but his voice message was made public.
"Hey, it's a joke, don't make fun of it," Totti is said to have said.
"They criticized me, they said I only scored from penalties and that it was easy to score them. This has never happened in the history of football. Three in a row! Only Roma does things like this, unbelievable."
Artem Dovbyk missed the first attempt, but Roma won the right to repeat the penalty due to players entering the area prematurely.
The Ukrainian striker missed his second attempt, while Matias Soulé missed his third. Lille goalkeeper Berke Ozer saved all three shots.
Like Totti, Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini was also stunned, saying after the match that he had "never seen three penalties missed in that way."
