SWISS has announced that it will cancel three routes departing from Geneva during the upcoming winter season: to Pristina, Berlin and Hamburg. The decision comes as a result of a shortage of spare parts and maintenance problems with the engines of its Airbus A220 fleet.

According to the company, these logistical difficulties have already affected its operations, forcing the cancellation of several flights even during this year's peak season. The situation is particularly related to engine maintenance challenges, which have limited the use of the aircraft to short and medium-haul flights, albinfo.ch reports.

Earlier, SWISS had decided to keep nine Airbus A220-100 aircraft grounded for up to 18 months, with the aim of using their engines for the larger A220-300 aircraft, which carry more passengers.

"To further strengthen operational stability and scheduling reliability, SWISS is adapting services from Geneva," the company said in a statement.

According to the new schedule, during the winter season lasting from October 25, 2026 to March 27, 2027, SWISS will operate 15 short-haul destinations from Geneva, in addition to the long-haul route to New York.

The problem with the supply of parts and maintenance of the Airbus A220 fleet has been ongoing for months, affecting the company's planning and the stability of its air network.
