Cameron McEvoy has surpassed Cesar Cielo as the fastest man in the 50-meter freestyle in swimming.
The 31-year-old Australian ran an incredible race, clocking 20.88 seconds at the China Open, which is taking place in Shenzhen.
He improved by 0.03 seconds the world record of 20.91 seconds that Cielo had set in 2009, at the end of the polyurethane suit era.
Polyurethane suits, introduced in the first decade of this century, brought a true "revolution" to swimming, leading to the setting of one record after another, writes Balkanweb.
They were finally banned in 2010, but the records achieved with them were not canceled.
