Freedom really has a name. And that name is the unceasing struggle of the Albanian people occupied by Serbia and later Yugoslavia for freedom. This struggle culminated in the armed uprising of our people led by the famous – the Kosovo Liberation Army. The armed struggle brought the involvement of the international community and consequently the liberation of Kosovo and then its independence.
There is no doubt that the bearers of the war, the participants and those who helped it have their names written in golden letters in history. Therefore, freedom also has the name of Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, Rexhep Selim, Sali Mustafa - Cali, Pjetër Shala, and others such as Fadil Fazliu, Bashkim Smakaj, Isni Kila, Nasim Haradinaj, Haxhi Shala, Hysni Ngucat and others who have gone through and are still going through the ordeal of The Hague.
But there is no doubt that a special name in all the processes that Kosovo and the Albanians have gone through is that of Hashim Thaçi. His name is unsurpassed in the history of the liberation of the country, the creation and consolidation of the state. In many of these processes in which he was a bearer, I had different opinions, convictions and political concepts. In many of them, I believe even today that I was right. In some, the courage to enter into some processes such as Rambouillet, the independence of Kosovo, time has proven him right. What in my eyes also gives him the dimension of a courageous and visionary politician is his support in the end of the concept of redefining the borders between Kosovo and Serbia as the best and fairest solution to the problems not only between Kosovo and Serbia, but also of the Albanian-Serbian problem in the Balkans.
There is nothing more painful than seeing the symbols of Kosovo's freedom in front of the dock. I have no idea what the final verdict will be. But I know one thing, that the Court of Human History and that of the Albanian nation, one day will place these people, these courageous leaders, in the Pantheon of Human Freedom, because the freedom of every person, the freedom of every people is a contribution to universal human freedom, intended since man has functioned as a social being.
