A 17-year-old girl has amazed scientists with an extremely rare memory ability, so powerful that it resembles a form of "time travel".

Identified only as “TL” in a scientific study, she can mentally relive every day of her life and relive it with an incredible level of detail, as if it were a high-definition movie. Equally impressive is her ability to imagine the future, which she describes as a kind of “trailer” of possible events.

Researchers at the University of Paris report that TL suffers from hyperthymesia, also known as Highly Enhanced Autobiographical Memory (HSAM) — a very rare condition where memories do not fade over time, but remain vivid and instantly accessible.

In her descriptions, TL shows an internal “archive” of the mind: a white space organized like a filing system, where memories are divided according to themes such as family, vacations, or personal documents. Even the objects in this mental world are labeled according to the people who gave them to them.

She can recall events from her own perspective, or see them from the outside as an observer, maintaining the same emotional force as in the real moment.

Scientists emphasize that this memory is mainly related to personal life, not to general facts. Ordinary information, according to her, is stored in a more practical “dark memory”, while personal experiences remain extremely vivid. The future, for TL, also appears equally clearly, although as possible scenarios and not certain predictions.

Researchers describe her case as one of the first documented examples of "mental time travel," involving both the past and the future. They say it could help to better understand the connection between memory, imagination, and identity.

Neurologist Valentina La Corte explains that the unusual activity is linked to specific brain networks involved in reflection and memory, which in individuals with this condition are more interconnected than usual.

Hyperthymesia is extremely rare and only a few cases have been reported in the world. TL was not believed for years, as he was accused of making up stories as a child.

Today, her study is being seen as an opportunity to understand one of the most mysterious abilities of the human brain: the way life is transformed into memories that can be relived, moment by moment. /GazetaExpress/
