The panel of judges of the Special Court a few days ago decided to extend the detention of former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi, writes Gazeta Express.
However, in this decision, the Panel of Judges has found that the Prosecution's first argument in the request for the continuation of detention is not fully supported. It concerns the "risk of flight". The Court finds that although it cannot be completely ruled out, the Prosecution has not succeeded in sufficiently proving that there is a real and credible possibility that Hashim Thaçi will flee if released.
"The Panel finds that, while the risk of flight can never be completely ruled out, the Panel considers that the Special Prosecution has failed to substantiate its claim of a 'sufficiently real possibility' that the Accused will flee if released based on the stage of the proceedings," the Special Court document published on April 13, 2026, reports Gazeta Express.
However, the Court has continued Hashim Thaçi's detention since it has determined that there is a risk of obstructing the progress of the Special Court's proceedings and committing other crimes. /GazetaExpress/
