On the roof of the "Boris Sarafov" building, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is located, construction of a steel shelter has begun, for which it is expected to spend up to half a million euros.
According to the documents published in the relevant tender, the shelter will extend over an area of approximately 1300 square meters around the main roof dome and will serve to protect the monuments located there.
"Within the framework of this public procurement, the aim is to prepare technical documentation for the implementation of construction works for the construction of a shelter above the last level - the flat terrace of the MFA building at 'Filip Vtori Makedonski' Street No. 7 in Skopje. The aim is protection from atmospheric influences such as rain, snow and hail, while in a part of it it is envisaged to install photovoltaic panels in the future," the public procurement project program states.
The contract for the implementation of the project was signed with the construction company "Pyramid Building Solutions", which was the only bidder in the tender procedure. The procedure was conducted as a simplified procedure, while the contract value reaches up to 34 million denars including VAT.
This company is known to the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timço Mucunski, since he was mayor of the Municipality of Aerodrom. According to public records, in 2023 it was engaged by the municipality for the maintenance of hygiene and municipal services, with a contract worth around 335 thousand euros.
At that time, the City of Skopje announced a fine of 88 thousand euros for the Municipality of Aerodrom, after the company allegedly dumped waste at the headquarters of the Football Federation of Macedonia (FFM) in Lisica e Re, instead of the “Drisla” landfill. Mucunski, in his capacity as mayor at the time, denied these allegations.
“Pyramid Building Solutions” has often participated in tenders of the Municipality of Aerodrom. Among other things, the company also won the tender of about 700 thousand euros for the reconstruction of the square behind the “Kapitoll” shopping center. The start of these construction works, in February 2025, was also attended by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski.
