Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes is one of the few names not enjoying a "new dawn" under Xabi Alonso. It seemed certain that he would leave at the end of the La Liga season, but currently, Arsenal remain the only serious contenders for his signature.
Since the first match of the Club World Cup, Rodrygo has played just 23 minutes under Alonso — and those minutes come after a long absence since being substituted in the first half of the Copa del Rey final. Although Alonso has given positive messages for the Brazilian, his departure is looking increasingly likely.
Arsenal are the club most closely linked with Rodrygo, with some reports suggesting the Gunners are ready to offer an initial €70m, while Diario AS claims the deal could reach over €90m. According to Fabrizio Romano, Rodrygo and Real Madrid will discuss his future after the Club World Cup and make a decision.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are in no rush to finalise a deal. According to Ben Jacobs of GMS Sport, a move for Rodrygo will only happen if Gabriel Martinelli and/or Leandro Trossard leave. The London club do not plan to open talks with Real before August, believing it is a more suitable deal for the end of the transfer window.
In the Spanish capital, news continues to confirm that Real Madrid are open to selling Rodrygo if the right offer comes in. Alonso and the club are of the same mind that the door to leave is open if the player wants to leave, especially considering the current attacking power and the arrival of young talent, Franco Mastantuono.
Rodrygo has been largely on the bench during the Club World Cup, although Endrick Felipe and Kylian Mbappé have been unavailable due to injury and illness. In the two attacking positions, there seems to be little room for Rodrygo if Alonso continues with a three-man defence. If the club are intent on pushing him towards a move, his current situation on the pitch is not helping him to stay.
