Formula 1 legend Riccardo Patrese has revealed his efforts to "help wake up" Michael Schumacher after the German's tragic accident in the Alps in 2013.
However, he admits that his offer never found a response, as Schumacher's wife, Corina, preferred to protect his privacy.
The seven-time World Champion's health has remained a closely guarded secret since he suffered serious brain damage in a skiing accident.
Patrese, now 71, was Schumacher's teammate at Benetton in 1993 and their friendship continued even after the Italian retired from F1 in 1994.
The F1 veteran recently spoke about their special bond through football, as they played together in charity matches before the fatal accident that changed Schumacher's life forever.
According to reports, Patrese revealed his intention to visit her to help her recover, believing that a familiar voice could help her.
"And then the accident happened. It's a very sad moment. You know, sometimes when they hear a familiar voice, some wake up, they recognize that voice...", said Patrese tearfully.
