Kosovo will begin strict enforcement of laws for vehicles registered abroad and for foreign citizens.

The decision aims to prevent the use of vehicles with foreign license plates in Kosovo, and citizens living in border areas fear they will face difficulties.

"For example, I go in and out during the day, once or twice," said a citizen.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs says that the laws have been in force even before and that their implementation is in line with international standards.

Jeta Tela, chief of staff at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, told RTK that these are not two new laws.

"It means that the law on foreigners and the law on vehicles are laws that came into force much earlier," she said.

Qëndrim Bytyqi, Director of the Legal Office at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, also says that the Law on Vehicles provides that Kosovo citizens who live outside the territory and who own a vehicle that is registered in a foreign country have the right to circulate in Kosovo for up to three months.

"However, this does not prevent the same people from returning after leaving the territory of Kosovo, so the restrictions apply for a three-month period that is uninterrupted, but which is not limited so that those who have more frequent visits can re-enter the territory of Kosovo with that vehicle," he said.

Meanwhile, Ragmi Mustafi, former chairman of the Albanian National Council in the Presheva Valley and advisor to the acting deputy prime minister, believes that citizens have no reason to worry.

"The Kosovo government is constantly in intensive communication on all issues that affect the Albanians of the Presheva Valley and of course on this issue, so this is also an information space, so I invite all Albanian citizens of the Presheva Valley who are in Kosovo to start arranging their documents," he said.

And residents, however, have their own dilemmas. While institutions assure that there will be no obstacles, residents of cross-border areas remain awaiting clearer explanations about the concrete impact of this decision on their daily lives. /rtk
