North Macedonian customs have confiscated 500 euros at the Tabanovec border crossing, Anadolu reports.
Customs Director Boban Nikollovski said that an attempt to illegally transfer cash has been prevented.
He informed that the money was found in a specially built bunker in a minibus, packed in bags.

The Control and Investigations Sector, through the Department for Operational Work, prevented an attempt to illegally transfer cash in the amount of half a million euros found in a specially built bunker in a minibus, which resulted in the largest historical seizure of foreign currency, emphasized the Director of the Customs Directorate, Boban Nikollovski, at a press conference where he informed about the case.
The foreign currency and the vehicle have been confiscated, while the perpetrator, a citizen of the Republic of Albania with the initials Xh.G. who was driving the minibus, has been prosecuted, for which a court decision has already been announced by the Basic Court of Kumanovo.
The attempt was discovered in an action by the Department for Operational Work at the entrance to the country at the Tabanovec border crossing, where a detailed check was carried out on the minibus, owned by a tourist agency from Albania, which was transporting seven passengers.
"The operation, which involved a mobile team, the K9 unit and the Mobile Scanner Service, was carried out quickly and efficiently. The mobile team, which has extensive experience, immediately noticed modifications to the vehicle, after which a customs dog was released, which showed indications of smuggling in the same place. The suspicions were also confirmed by scanning the vehicle by the Mobile Scanner Service, after which the mobile team inspectors continued with the removal of the profile, where a total of 14 transparent bags containing 500 thousand euros were found," said the director, adding that any attempt at illegal cross-border transfer of cash will be severely sanctioned.
Nikollovski also expressed public gratitude to the teams from the Department for Operational Work for their quick response and professional control.
In accordance with the law, the seized foreign currency was handed over to the Seized Property Agency, from where it was deposited at the National Bank.
