A new study warns of a significant increase in cancer cases in people under the age of 50, suggesting that modern factors such as processed foods, industrial chemicals and antibiotic use may play a role in this trend.

According to researchers from the Institute of Cancer Research and Imperial College London, around 11 types of cancer are showing an increase in the 20–49 age group, including breast, colon, thyroid, liver and pancreatic cancer. In 2023 alone, around 31 young people will be diagnosed with cancer, with the majority of cases occurring in women.

Although obesity remains a significant risk factor, experts stress that it does not fully explain this increase. They suggest that ultra-processed foods, which make up a large part of the modern diet, may influence the development of the disease.

Another possible factor is PFAS chemicals, known as “persistent chemicals,” found in cookware, clothing, and everyday products. These substances can accumulate in the body and the environment for long periods.

Also, the frequent use of antibiotics in recent decades is being seen as an element that can affect health, as it can change the intestinal microbiome - a system of bacteria important for the functioning of the body.

Experts emphasize that there is no single cause for this phenomenon, but a combination of factors that work together. They call for more scientific research and preventive measures, while underlining that the fight against obesity remains a key priority for reducing the risk of cancer. /GazetaExpress/
