If you have an old iPod sitting in your closet, it might be worth cleaning it up, charging it up, and putting it on an auction site. According to the latest data from eBay, Apple fans are returning to this iconic technology, which offers hours of music without the usual smartphone distractions.

The number of people looking for old iPods has increased significantly: last year searches increased by over 20%, while for the iPod Classic the increase was 25% compared to the previous year. The word “iPod” was searched for more than 1,200 times per hour on eBay globally during 2025.

According to eBay, the following iPod models saw the largest average price increase by global users in 2025 compared to 2023:

iPod Nano 3rd generation: over 60%

iPod 3rd generation: over 50%

iPod Nano 4th generation: over 45%

iPod Classic 6th generation: over 40%

If you have any of these models sitting around collecting dust, it might be time to try selling them. A quick look on eBay shows that some models are selling for more than £100.

It's not just Apple devices that are experiencing a major comeback. Retro technology is making a strong comeback: vinyl turntables, cassette tapes, and Walkman-type devices are also experiencing a major renaissance.

A little history of the iPod

The iPod was first introduced by Apple in October 2001, with the promise of “1,000 songs in your pocket.” It ran on iTunes software and changed the way people bought, organized, and listened to music. Early models used a mechanical wheel and hard drive, while later versions, like the Nano, were smaller and lighter.

The iPod helped revive Apple and pushed the music industry towards digital distribution. Over time, the iPod mini, shuffle and touch were added. With the dominance of smartphones, Apple discontinued production of the iPod in 2022, ending an important era. However, its cultural impact remains strong for music lovers around the world. /GazetaExpress/
