The first 100 hours of the US war against Iran are estimated to have cost $3.7 billion, or about $891.4 million per day, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
With both US President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth hinting that the war could last for weeks, the Washington, DC-based think tank notes that the Department of Defense will need more funds than currently budgeted to finance the war.
“The cost of ammunition will decrease as the United States transitions to lower-cost munitions,” CSIS said, explaining that launching an air campaign is more costly because of the sophisticated weapons required.
“However, the unforeseen costs in the budget will be significant… This means that the Department of Defense (DOD) will need additional funding at some point, because the level of budget cuts that would be needed to fund this conflict from within is likely to be politically and operationally difficult,” the report said.
