Three people have lost their lives as a result of smoke asphyxiation following a fire in an apartment in Malisheva today.
The Deputy Mayor of Malisheva Municipality, Vesel Krasniqi, announced that the victims are a father and his two children.
"Unfortunately, today, from asphyxiation, from the fires in their apartment, we have three victims, a father with two children, a girl and a boy. As soon as we received the information, our organs from the police, emergency, emergency, all units went to the scene and the medical staff did the impossible, but at the moment when the announcement was made, it was probably a little too late, the father and his two children were found without signs of life," he said.
He added that all relevant institutions have immediately engaged in handling the case.
"Now the police, the investigation, the prosecution, they are all doing their job and we pray and put pressure so that the case is clarified as soon as possible, how it unfolded. What is important is that all the bodies were at the scene at the right time, but unfortunately it was impossible to save three lives," he said.
Krasniqi expressed condolences to the families of the victims, also on behalf of the mayor.
"On my own behalf and on behalf of Mayor Kastrati, of course the mayor has been in the hospital since this morning for medical treatment and I believe he will be released very soon in the coming days. On my own behalf and on behalf of Mayor Kastrati, but also on behalf of all the citizens of the municipality of Malisheva, we express our most sincere condolences to the Berisha family," he said.
According to him, the exact cause of the fire is still unknown, while smoke asphyxiation is suspected.
"For all these, you have seen for yourself that they are the investigators, they are doing their job, it is not in our competence and we do not know as a result of what happened because at the moment they have already found them, but what is known from the medical staff is that it is from asphyxiation, meaning from the smoke that occurred after the burning there, what could have been burned there," he said.
He emphasized that the building where the incident occurred was built by the municipality in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Welfare and that the apartments are in temporary use for families in need.
"This facility was built by the municipality in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Welfare, meaning it was co-financed by the ministry, and of course, public services have been constantly under observation, under inspection every time because here, in fact, residents change. This means that the apartments are not permanent, they are available according to need, the moment they make a decision, the apartment is vacated by someone else. The apartments are also continuously inspected. This problem with electricity, apart from the reductions, there has never been any notification that there has been any other problem, no other case, apart from the reductions that are happening everywhere else," he said./EO
